On the afternoon of October 10, 2018, teachers and students from the Tsinghua-IDG/Mcgovern Institute and Tel Aviv University attended the 5th Tsinghua University Forum of XIN Center had a heated academic discussion.
Professor Hagit Eldar-Finkelman from School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University and Professor Daniel Segal from School of Life Sciences gave lectures on scientific research at the Tsinghua-IDG/McGovern Institute. Dr. Bailong Xiao presided over the lecture. Professor Eldar-Finkelman presented a report on new therapies for neurodegeneration. Her team focused on the development of drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and other growing diseases of the elderly. Professor Segal is dedicated to the treatment of Parkinson's disease. In his report, he described inhibition of amyloid aggregation as a therapeutic strategy for neurodegeneration, and suggested that mannitol may be used as an inhibitor of amyloid aggregation and as a channel for other drugs through BBB. In the course of the lecture, teachers and students had a heated discussion and exchange.
After the lecture, the faculty and students of Tel Aviv University also visited the laboratories of Tsinghua-IDG/McGovern Institute, and made in-depth discussions with the faculty, students and researchers of the laboratories. It is hoped that in the future, the faculty and students of the two universities will have more in-depth scientific research and teaching exchanges and cooperation.
