2016 Tsinghua McGovern Board Paid a Tribute to Mr. McGovern

On May, 24th, Mrs. McGovern and the participants to the board meeting of IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research at Tsinghua University (Tsinghua McGovern) held a special ceremony in front of the Tree Dedicated to Mr. McGovern who generously supported Tsinghua to build the Brain Institute. They paid a tribute to Mr. McGovern for his great support in developing the neuroscience research in Tsinghua and in China.

 

Patrick McGovern (1937-2014) was the founder and Chairman of IDG (International Data Group), with business in technology publishing, research, event management and venture capital. He oversaw IDG’s launch of more than 300 newspapers and magazines, including ComputerWorld, MacWorld and PC World. He set up one of the first American-Chinese joint ventures in 1980.

IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research at Tsinghua University was established in 2011, with the support from the McGoverns with IDG. It has grown into the top research institute in China for Neuroscience with 15 full-time principle investigators and more than 200 masters, doctoral and postdoctoral students. Their researches have been published in the world’s top scientific journals such as Nature and Neurons.

Desimone, Director, McGovern Institute for Brain Research at MIT; Dr. Yigong Shi, Vice President of Tsinghua University; Dr. Ning Deng, Vice Director, Office of Scientific Research and Development , Tsinghua University; Dr. Chen Dong, Executive Dean, School of Medicine; Dr. Bing Li, Vice President, Tsinghua University Education Foundation. Ms. Ying Ren, Vice President of IDG China; Dr. Bo Hong, Vice Dean of Tsinghua School of Medicine; Dr. Songhai Shi, Professor of Sloan Kettering Institute for Cancer Research with Cornel University also joined the meeting. Dr. Yi Zhong, the Director of Tsinghua McGovern, reported his work in the past year and the board discussed the future strategy to further develop Tsinghua McGovern. The institute will focus on the exploration of new applications of brain science to further understanding of how the brain functions and discovering new ways to protect and rebuild the brain, and make contributions to brain science in China.
